Ginger... everyone's favorite underground rhizome. It's chock full of vitamins/nutritive benefits and has this lovely tendency to make things (sweet dishes, savory dishes, boozy beverages, not-so-boozy beverages, scented candles—you name it) more deliciously robust, fragrant, spicy, and all-around awesome. Even as a perennial ginger junkie, I especially love the root's warming qualities as we ease into cooler weather. One of my favorite ways to infuse recipes with intense gingery goodness is by adding a splash of ginger juice. This is a nifty trick I recently picked up from a bartender that has completely revolutionized the way I ginge-out.

Just grab yourself a hunk of ginger root, peel it, grate it, wrap those gratings in cheese cloth, and squeeze (over a vessel of some sort)—voila! You've got yourself some ginger juice. You can wring quite a bit of liquid out of a small piece of ginger. But do be warned, the juice is incredibly potent. Use it gingerly—a little bit goes a long way.So you have juice, now what? Here are just a few thoughts to get you going:

  • Use it to spice up smoothies or cocktails.
  • DIY ginger soda or syrup.
  • Replace part of your cooking liquid with g-juice when preparing rice.
  • Whip out better butter cream. Ginger-flavored frosting makes a stellar finishing touch on a wide variety autumn baked goods (cue pumpkin/chai/apple spice everything).

This Pineapple Ginger Juice is so refreshing! The fruity taste of the pineapple plus the spicy flavor of the ginger are such a wonderful combo. Also, there is some freshly squeezed lemon juice added which makes it a very nutrient-dense drink. In fact, I feel like drinking the whole batch myself each time I make this Pineapple Ginger Juice. So good!

You guys, summer is here! The hot temperature outside these days is not my friend at all! So, one of my solutions is to make all the fruit juices, smoothies, ice creams and popsicles I can make. At least, that makes the heat enjoyable because we can always cool off with some homemade refreshing treats!

One of such treats is this Pineapple Ginger Juice. When I saw pineapples for the cheap at the grocery store the other day, I knew I had to buy many. So I grabbed some and stuffed into my cart. Oh, how I like el cheapo!

Especially at this time of the year, lots of fruits in this part of the world are so cheap! It's my favorite time to go grocery shopping because I buy allllll the fruits I can.

So back to this Pineapple Ginger Juice. The main ingredients here are pineapple and ginger as the name of the juice stipulates. But I also add a lemon for a nice citrusy kick and more nutrition!

Talking about nutrition, it is loaded with vitamins C, B1, B6, and lots of other nutrients! It is also contains lots of weight-loss properties if you are into that sort of thing.

So to make your Pineapple Ginger Juice or Pineapple Ginger-Lemon Juice, all you need to do is place your pineapple in a blender (after peeling and chopping, of course). Then you add the ginger, squeeze in lemon juice and you blend away.

Once you blend, pass it through a fine sieve to remove the extra pulp. I really like this sieve which I got from Amazon. You can also pass it through a cheesecloth to remove the pulp. Also, if you have a juicer, you can use it to juice the pineapple and ginger then squeeze in the lemon juice. I have a juicer but I often skip using it because that stuff is a lot of work to clean. I will only use it when I have TONS of juice to make.

Once you make your Pineapple Ginger Juice it's time for you to enjoy! I love having a cup or two right away! This juice is so tasty. Fruity and sweet and there's no added sugar! It is also good for serving with meals like breakfast.

This Pineapple Ginger Juice is enjoyed in a number of West African countries like Cameroon, Nigeria. Jamaicans enjoy it too as well. But no matter where you are from, you should try it. It is a real treat!

Lemon & Ginger Juice Shot Recipe

  • 4-5 medium lemons, juiced with peel
  • 1/2-1 cup coconut water
  • 2-4 inches fresh ginger root
  • Optional: sprinkle of cayenne pepper (careful though, this is HOT)

Juice these together, and add them to your shot bottles, but only half way. Add the coconut water to fill it to the top. Cap and shake to combine. Save in the fridge or freeze for later use.

BENEFITS: These are perfect for reducing whole body inflammation & calming digestive issues, helps cleanse the colon and supports the liver. I have been having one of these EVERY morning for the last month and it’s done wonders for my digestion.

Simple Beetroot And Ginger Juice Recipe

This beetroot, ginger and lemon juice is a great detox juice option for anyone following a juice cleanse, looking for an immune booster and wanting to pack in more essential nutrients for the body.

Plus, the combination of beets and ginger has a whole variety of health benefits.

Juice recipes, in general, are a great way to add large amounts of fruits and vegetables to your diet. I love to consume juice as part of a mixed, healthy diet – however, this immune booster juice also works for anyone on a juice cleanse.

Health Benefits of Beetroot Juice

Beetroot is an ingredient often included in healthy meals and juices, for its many health benefits. While it’s flavour is a bit of a marmite situation, i.e. you either love it or hate it, there’s no denying what beet juice can do for you.

  • First and foremost, beetroot juice is a natural detoxer, fantastic for supporting overall liver health. Not only does it contain betaine – which prevents excess fatty deposits in the liver, it also protects from toxins.
  • Beetroot juice is also full of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, potassium and Vitamin C.
  • Of those mentioned above – Vitamin C is an incredible antioxidant that helps boost the immune system, is anti-inflammatory, and supports iron absorption as well as wound healing.
    Vitamin C and Zinc combined are also great vitamins for boosting your immune system during cold/flu season.
  • There have been studies to show that beetroot juice can help those with high blood pressure to lower blood pressure – with the nitrates in the juice, helping to ‘relax’ blood vessels and improve blood flow.
  • The nitrates within the juice also help to increase exercise stamina/ levels and boost physical performance.
  • Beets contain betalains ( which give them their colour) and are antioxidants. These have anti-cancerous properties – destroying harmful free radicals from the body.

Health Benefits of Ginger

Ginger has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, for various reasons:

  • Ginger is well-known for its ability to aid digestive upset – form bloat, to gas, to indigestion, to general pains and even to reduce nausea. This is because it helps to speed up the emptying of our stomachs.
  • Ginger is also used as a home remedy for treating colds and sore throats– due to it’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-oxidative properties.
  • Not to mention that it can reduce ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol and improve general heart health
  • There are also studies to show how ginger reduces chronic pain and period pains.
  • Ginger also has anti-cancerous properties

Together, beetroot and ginger are also used for weight management/ weight loss and have become favourites as part of a juice cleanse.

Health Benefits of Lemon

Lemon juice is a great addition to this juice as it combines with the flavours to make the juice more palatable for some. Plus, lemon juice also adds its own health benefits including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and detoxifying benefits.

Lemons are rich in Vitamin C which acts as an immune booster. It also prevents spoilage and rotting, thus making lemon juice a great natural preservative.

Ways to customise this recipe

Beetroot and ginger are both intense flavours – which can put people off. However, there are a few ways you can customise this recipe to improve the taste while retaining the various health benefits.

  1. You could add apple juice to the mix – the burst of sweetness will cut through the ‘spice’ of ginger and earthy beetroot (3-4 apples added to the recipe)
  2. If lemon isn’t what you’re in the mood for then, you could add orange juice to this recipe instead. Not only will it help sweeten the combination – it adds extra vitamin c to the juice.
  3. This last one might sound a bit weird – but sometimes all you need is to serve your juice with some ice-cubes, and that’s enough to make it feel more refreshing and easier to drink.

The Beetroot and Ginger Juice Recipe How-To:

All you need is beetroot, ginger and lemon.

The best thing about making any juice recipe is that it is ridiculously simple. Juicing beets is one of the simplest of all- especially when you have a juicer.

Note* If you only have a blender, then don’t worry you can also make juice with a blender. It adds an additional step to the process and leaves a lot of extra pulp – but it IS possible. Simply remove the ingredients peels, blend till smooth and then strain through a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve, squeezing/pressing- to get out as much juice as possible.

Start by washing/ scrubbing your beets and ginger. Peel and cut the beets into small pieces that you can feed into the juicer.

You don’t need to peel the ginger if it’s organic, just make sure it’s small enough to feed into the juicer.

Simply feed the ginger then the beetroot into your juicer and voila.

Lastly, add the lemon juice. You can either pass the lemon though the juicer, if you remove the rind. Or you can just squeeze it separately and add it to the beetroot ginger juice.

You can keep in airtight glass containers in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Note* In terms of side effects – when you start drinking beetroot juice, this can make your urine red-ish in colour.

What to do with the leftover pulp

Leftover juice pulp is nearly always great for the compost. However, you could also leave it to dry/dehydrate it and use as a powder within a variety of dishes. You can also take advantage of the fiber by adding the pulp to a smoothie recipe

How to Make Ginger Shots

The one we make most often is the simplest and only requires two ingredients: ginger + lemon. The ginger is pretty spicy, but the lemon cuts it just enough to make everything go down without too much work. Ginger is soothing and works wonders for the digestive system. Lemon is great for the immune system and helps to give you a nice boost.

Since we’ve fallen into making ginger shots often, we’ve done some experimenting. The ginger is bold and spicy, so adding something sweet like carrot or apple really helps to take the edge off. Greens are another secret, they tame ginger nicely.

Since we’re talking about making shot-sized juices — it doesn’t make much sense to get out the juicer every morning. Instead, we’ve gotten into the ritual of juicing a big piece of ginger then keeping it in the fridge and using it over the next few days. You can do the same with carrot, apple and spinach. (More than 3 days and the nutritional value of the juice might start to degrade.)

In the recipe below, we’ve shared three ginger-based juice combinations:

We use our Omega juicer and love it, but if you need to, you can make ginger shots with a high powered blender. A juicer gets much more out of the ginger, but since it is so inexpensive some loss is fine.

To juice ginger using a blender, add roughly chopped ginger and a few tablespoons of water or lemon juice to your blender. Blend until the ginger is broken down — you will likely need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times. Then simply pour the ginger juice through a fine mesh strainer and add to fresh lemon juice for your shot.

For the other juices, you can treat carrot and apple the same as ginger and use a blender. Greens don’t do well in the blender, so I’d stick to using a good juicer for those.

How To Make Ginger Juice

If you’ve visited this blog for a while, you might have known there are some recipes yielded for freshly grated ginger juice. Fresh ginger is a very good and popular marinade ingredient that helps tenderize the meat and expel some awkward smell if there’s any. With ginger juice, you can make a tasty drink that boosts up your body health, or a dessert that satisfies your sweet tooth, or a delicious sauce that takes your whole dish up a level.

But, how do we make ginger juice? And how to extract as much ginger juice as possible? These are the questions I was asked repeatedly. You don’t need to slice or chop the ginger at all. These ways can only give you a few drops of ginger juice. In Australia, ginger root is quite expensive. So we’d like to extract as much juice from a small size of ginger as we can. It’s not that hard as you thought. All you need is an inexpensive ginger grater and your clean hands.

The box-shaped ginger grater was bought from a nifty shop in Hong Kong that served me for years.

Top right: Or you can simply squeeze the juice out with your hand.
  1. Peel ginger with a knife or spoon.
  2. Grate peeled ginger with a ginger grinder.
  3. Transfer grated ginger to a small strainer. To extract the ginger juice, press with a spoon. Or transfer into a ginger press if you have one. Or simply squeeze the grated ginger with your clean bare hand.

  • Based on my personal experience, the box-shaped ginger grinder is an efficient tool. Lots of juice can be extracted easily from it. You will notice that the serrated ratchet liner on top is specially designed for shredding, not cutting off the ginger fibre.
  • Below is a ceramic garlic grater that was bought when I traveled to Japan. The base has slip-proof rubber strips to prevent slipping during grating. You can get one here if you like.

Carrot Ginger Juice Recipe

The Carrot Ginger Juice Recipe is one of the juices that you will want to have every morning. The carrots when combined along with ginger, brings a refreshing taste to the palate and the mind. Carrots are naturally sweet and smooth so when made into a juice you can also choose to keep the pulp and drink it like a smoothie.

Carrots are often thought of as the ultimate health food. Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A. It is the antioxidant beta-carotene that gives carrots their bright orange color. Beta-carotene is absorbed in the intestine and converted into vitamin A during digestion. Carrots also contain fiber, vitamin K, potassium, folate, manganese, phosphorous, magnesium, Vitamin E and zinc.

How To Make Ginger Juice

Making your own ginger juice requires just 3 ingredients and give or take 20 minutes. It’s is easy to do with a blender, bullet blender, or food processor. Ginger juice can be served as as refreshing cold beverage on hot summer days or it can be served warm as ginger tea during chilly winter months.

It’s also great as a cocktail mixer, as a base for sauces, or the cook rice in.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Measure and prepare the ginger. You can peel the skin off the ginger or if your ginger isn’t very dirty you can simply wash it. Remove any tough pieces, knobs, or deep crevices where dirt collects.
  2. Cut the ginger into 1-2″ pieces so it’s easier for your blender to break down.
  3. Add the ginger pieces and water to a blender with lemon juice and sweetener (if using) and blend for 30-60 seconds until no large pieces remain.
  4. Pour through a fine sieve or nut milk bag to strain the pulp and your shot is ready!

Here are some optional add-ins that taste fantastic with ginger juice:

  • Fresh herbs! Basil, mint, rosemary, and thyme all taste exceptional with ginger juice. Start by adding 2 tablespoons of fresh herbs and taste. Lemongrass would also be great.
  • Vanilla extract. Yes, vanilla and ginger are a great pair, as vanilla is mild and soothing compared to ginger’s fiery heat! Start with 1 teaspoon per 1 cup of ginger juice.
  • Citrus juice. Lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice can all be added to this recipe.

How To Make Ginger Shots

Ginger shots intended as a health or wellness shot can be created a bit differently as you won’t slowly sip on ginger shots. Ginger shots are more concentrated so they have less water and less sugar but you can still make them easily in your blender or bullet blender.

These ginger juice shots consist of pure ginger juice and fresh lemon juice– adding sugar is optional.

To make ginger shots follow the steps to make ginger juice listed above with a few exceptions. If you’re making ginger health shots you don’t need to add the sugar as you won’t be sipping on it, you’ll be shootin’ it back!

Also, health shots are usually concentrated so we’ll use half the amount of water. These ginger shots will have a spicy, fiery kick so taste and adjust as needed by adding more water or sweetener.

Store ginger shots in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 5 days. You can also freeze them for longer storage if needed.

Why drink ginger juice or ginger shots? Ginger is in the health food spotlight for a variety of benefits especially those pertaining to stomach ailments. Ginger is known to help heal the gut with everything from nausea, to motion sickness, morning sickness, and menstrual cramps.

Ginger Juice Shot Recipe

  • Bowl of fresh ginger root, 10-12 roots, unpeeled
  • Optional: water, coconut water, lemon juice, apple juice

Juice the ginger in your juicer machine. Because ginger is a root and not very juicy, this will take some time and you'll likely have to stop, clean the juicer or remove some pulp before you can finish the whole batch.  No need to peel.  Once juiced, add the fresh juice directly to your shot bottles.  If you're going to drink it that week, fill it all the way to the top and cap.  On the bottles you'll freeze, make sure you leave a large gap of space at the top to allow the liquids to expand when frozen to avoid bottle breakage.  If you rather not have straight up ginger juice in your shot bottles, you can mix it with one of the optional ingredients so it's not so strong.  Save in the fridge or freeze for later use.

To consume, pour a little bit of ginger juice, about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of ginger juice in your glass each morning.  Fill the rest of the glass with lemon water or coconut water and serve.  After you get use to this little amount, add more to your glass each day.  You can have this several times throughout the day.

NOTE: Ginger juice is very potent and strong.  You only need a small amount to benefit from its healthful properties.
